Officials in Yuba City, Calif., have paid a lawyer who was filing frivolous lawsuits to stop attacking small businesses and the government in the northern California community.

Yuba City agreed to pay George Louie $15,000 to put an end to his frivolous Americans with Disabilities Act compliance lawsuits, reported CBS-13 of Sacramento.

?It?s just sad because it?s not what the law intended to do,? said Jayne Sawyer, an owner of a business that was targeted by one of Louie?s lawsuits. She added that facing the potential lawsuit, ?we?d probably have to close [the business] down. We do not have the capital; we?re barely breaking even.?

Louie was behind a lawsuit against the city over disability access at several intersections and the lawsuit was costing the city tens of thousands of dollars.

Under the agreement, he cannot sue under the act and has to drop any pending lawsuits.
