LONDON ? Organizers of the upcoming Doha Tribeca Film Festival announced plans for a showcase of four movies from Algeria, its Arab film http://edit.hollywoodreporter.com/node/384760/editcompetition and the juries deciding on the winners.
The festival, the annual cultural event of the Doha Film Institute (DFI), will program four movies and a live performance by Algerian jazz musician Safy Boutella at its awards ceremony as part of "Tribute to Algeria: Caught Between Past And Present."

The four films aiming to showcase Algeria?s people in the post-colonial era, and also coincides with the 50th anniversary of Algeria?s independence.
Rome Rather Than You (Roma Wa LaN'touma directed by Tariq Teguia, Winds of the Aures by Mohammed Lakhdar-Hamina, Omar Gatlato by Merzak Allouache and Nouba of the Women of Mont Chenoua by Assia Djeber are part of the DTFF?s tribute.
The four films sit alongside Algerian films picked for its Competition section including The Repentant, Fidai by Damien Ounouri and Goodbye Morocco by Nadir Mokn?che.
DTFF vice chair Issa Bin Mohammed Al-Mohannadi said: "Algeria?s cinematic history is indeed the reflection of the country?s post-independence era, and a creative expression of the people?s hopes and aspirations. As Algeria celebrates its 50th anniversary of independence, we are honoured to present a special showcase of the country?s powerful films ? both from the past and the present ? thus offering visitors to the festival a finer understanding of the country?s cinematic history and evolution."
Organizers said they have picked 27 films including seven documentaries and seven features and 13 shorts for its Arab Film Competition strand.
Filmmakers repping Egypt, Qatar, Tunisia, Algeria, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Jordan, Palestine, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Syria will compete.
Movies making world premieres in the Arab Film Competition include feature films Asham: A Man Called Hope, Playground Chronicles; Die Welt?and Goodbye Morocco and the documentary O My Body!

With prize money of over $440,000, the best feature narrative and documentary will each receive prize money of $100,000.
An award of $50,000 will be dished out to the best directors in both categories while a best performance award of $15,000 will be presented in the feature narrative competition.
Four juries will select winners in feature narrative, documentary narrative, short film and made in Qatar categories.
The feature narrative jury will be headed by Tunisian actress Hend Sabry (Whatever Lola Wants)?and includes Indian director Ashutoush Gowarikar (Lagaan).
The jury for documentary narrative includes Syrian documentary filmmaker, producer, and scriptwriter Hala Al Abdalla (I Am the One Who Takes Flowers to Her Grave) and renowned Iranian artist and filmmaker Shirin Neshat (Women Without Men).
Doha Film Institute CEO Abdulaziz Al-Khater said: "The jury members will evaluate the films to international standards thus ensuring that our films are benchmarked against the best. We are setting the bar high to ensure that the finest Arab filmmaking talent get the due recognition and international recognition through the Doha Tribeca Film Festival."
The festival runs Nov. 17 through 24, 2012.
