The Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center, Gulf Regional Childcare Management Agency and Community Action Agency of South Alabama received a $200,000 grant from the PNC Foundation to boost science education for underprivileged preschoolers in Baldwin County.

The new partnership will use the funds to offer hands-on activities for children, enhance family engagement and provide teachers with professional development opportunities for early science learning.

Under the two-year project, about 191 Head Start students will receive enhanced science activities in their classrooms and their families will receive learning resources, field trips and complimentary family memberships to the Gulf Coast Exploreum. CAASA and GRCMA also will provide 22 Head Start teachers with training to improve skills in preschool science instruction.

The $200,000 grant is part of PNC Grow Up Great, a $350 million, multi-year, initiative to improve early childhood education for children from birth to age 5.
